Darren Bent: Harry Kane “set” to sign new Tottenham Hotspur contract
Former Spurs player Darren Bent has revealed that Harry Kane is “set” to sign a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur based on a rumour he has heard. The centre-forward was linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer, but the move never came to fruition.
Kane was admired by Pep Guardiola and was expected to join up with Man City ahead of this summer but eventually stayed at Tottenham. He has endured a difficult start to the season but has shown a resurgence recently under the guidance of Antonio Conte.
Speaking on talkSPORT Drive (h/t Daily Mail Online), Bent has claimed that there are talks about how the Englishman could stay and sign an extension with Spurs. However, he emphasised that these are not confirmed, and we have to see in the coming days how the situation develops.
“I heard – and I have to stress it was a rumour – but it’s that he’s potentially gonna stay and sign a new contract there. This is what I’m hearing, but as I said, I’m doing a full Alex Crook here with the rumour, the speculation. For Spurs fans, that’d be fantastic, but does that mean that maybe Manchester City are going down the younger route? Maybe a Haaland?”
Kane to sign extension?
Like the former Spurs star mentioned, this is just speculation, for now, so we cannot form a conclusion based on it. What we can do is assess the current circumstances and form an opinion on whether this is possible or not.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed earlier this week how the relationship between Antonio Conte and the 28-year-old is “more than good”. His displays on the pitch have also increased dramatically, and he looks to have the drive and hunger that made him a top-class striker.

The England captain has overcome his struggles with scoring goals in Premier League, which shows the impact that Conte has made. We have also looked well in terms of our performances as it is a sharp contrast to what it was under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Considering all these above reasons, one could understand where the speculation is coming from, but it is a rumour for now. Unless we get something reliable from the club or the player, it is advisable to not read too much into it.
However, we would hope that this would turn out to be true as it would be the last nail in the coffin to the uncertainty surrounding what unfolded the previous summer. Time will paint a clear picture of what it would be as we enter the January transfer window.
