Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil offered to Barcelona
According to transfer journalist Gerard Romero (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil has been offered to Barcelona following the update on the future of Ousmane Dembele. The former only joined the North London club this season in a swap plus cash deal which saw Erik Lamela move to Sevilla.
Dembele will see his contract with Barca expire at the end of the 2021-22 season. He is currently in talks with them over a new deal, but an agreement has not been reached yet. He is willing to stay at Camp Nou if his demands are met by the Catalan club. That could be a hard ask for a club that is going through a hard time with finances.
Gil’s agent has taken notice of the situation where the Frenchman could potentially leave at the end of this campaign. The Spaniard has been offered as an option to compensate for the possible departure that the Blaugrana club could see next summer.
Gil to Barca possible?
Much time has not passed since we signed the 20-year-old, and it is funny to see how there are talks about a departure. While there are hints that the forward is unhappy with the situation at the club, we have to consider the context relating to the matter.
The Spanish attacker has missed matches having suffered an injury or by contracting Covid, which took away minutes from him. He has returned to the first team set up and was involved in the recent matches.
The Tottenham starlet showed promise in the 1-1 draw against Southampton, indicating the quality he possesses. He has not played at the level he did in Spain, but it takes time for a player to adjust to the new league and its surroundings.
Not to mention, the Spurs ace is still a youngster, and he has a long way to grow mentally and physically before he could regularly play at the top level. If the recent contributions are signs of the things that are to follow, we could see him gain more prominence as Antonio Conte slowly integrates the Spain international into the team.

Man management is a crucial factor in this modern footballing world, and the Spain international is bound to grow under the guidance of Conte. What helps his case even further is how we lack options in the frontline, and he would play a backup role in the coming matches.
The second half of the season is still ahead, and we need the winger’s services to keep the attacking line as fresh as possible. As such, he could earn more minutes if he keeps himself fit, which would elevate his position in the coming years. It is hard to see why we would let go of someone who has the potential to become a top player in the future.
