Transfer News: Arsenal leapfrog Tottenham Hotspur in race to sign Juventus star Dejan Kulusevski
According to Italian publication Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), Arsenal have leapfrogged Tottenham Hotspur in the race for signing Juventus star Dejan Kulusevski ahead of the January transfer window. This comes as an obvious blow for Spurs as they look to add depth to their frontline.
Juve would be open to sell the 21-year-old if they receive a bid of around €35million from any of the interested parties. Tottenham must obviously be disappointed to lose the lead by letting their North London rivals snatch up the advantage in the transfer race.
It remains to be seen what the reaction will be from Antonio Conte’s side as they try to bring in reinforcements to boost their squad, but that depends on just how much of an interest we hold in the Swede. Fabio Paratici may have a challenging job on his hands if we want to bring in the ex-Parma man.
Kulusevski to Arsenal or Spurs?
If we have intentions to back Conte in the upcoming transfer windows through signings, then this is not a good look at all. That is especially the case if we lose out on the Swedish international to our bitter rivals and potentially strengthen them in the process.
Kulusevski has failed to live up to the expectations that were placed on him since moving to the Turin based club. However, he isn’t entirely to blame as the squad, as a whole, have struggled since Cristiano Ronaldo’s last season at the Old Lady.
That is certainly bound to affect the winger’s displays, who had previously impressed when playing at Parma and Atalanta. Moreover, at 21, he is still very young and is just getting started with his senior career.
The Juve forward was further obstructed by the lack of regular game time as he failed to maintain his match sharpness. Consistent minutes are necessary for a player to showcase his abilities, which would be the case for the Swedish attacker as well.

There were times when the Serie A youngster got used in different positions without any regularity. A move elsewhere could be the right choice for him and the price tag isn’t overly exorbitant for a young starlet.
Paratici has had previous affiliations with the Italian club, and time would tell whether that would assist us in getting the signature of the youngster. We hope that is the case as we need some additions in attack since our options are pretty thin when you look at it. Missing out on Kulusevski would be one thing, but letting Arsenal get him over us would just irritate the fans even more.
