Report: Nice are keeping tabs on Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris
According to the French news outlet Foot Mercato (h/t ESPN), Nice are targeting a return for the Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris due to his current contract situation. The French club was the childhood club of the World Cup winner before he moved to Olympic Lyon.
Lloris has a contract with Tottenham, which will expire at the end of the current campaign. He is yet to reach common ground with the club to sign an extension, which opens up the possibility of a summer move. He would be interested in returning to his childhood club but, it would depend on how the situation develops between him and Spurs.
The skipper is the priority target for the Ligue 1 club next summer as they try to take advantage of a case where he would be available as a free agent. It remains to be seen how this would develop in the comings months and whether a renewal would be signed or not.
Will Lloris leave Spurs next summer?
The Frenchman has been one of the most consistent performers for us over the years, and it is concerning that his contract was allowed to enter the last six months. Even if he is in the twilight of his playing career, goalkeepers usually have more years left in them compared to outfield players.
What’s more, the Premier League star has refined his game even further and does not make mistakes like he would have done a couple of years ago. We do not have a replacement lined up, and Pierluigi Gollini has not shown us enough to claim that he could take over the mantle.
Even if we consider only the last couple of games, the France international has been immense on goal for us by making some spectacular saves. Our recent uptick in performances is also down to his contributions, as he saved us on multiple occasions.

We would eventually have to replace the Tottenham goalkeeper in the long term future. But that time is not right now, as he clearly has shown that he can keep playing at the top level for a few more years.
Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici need to manage this situation better by covering all the possibilities moving forward. If the French superstar leaves at the end of this term, they have a challenging job in hand in lining up a replacement who could replicate what the captain has done for us.
