Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur to battle Arsenal for Tariq Lamptey
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are plotting to engage Arsenal for the services of Brighton and Hove Albion right-back Tariq Lamptey for a future transfer. He has exploded onto the scene in Premier League after leaving Chelsea back in 2020.
Tottenham want to bring reinforcements in the right wing-back spot as they are ready to offload Matt Doherty in the January transfer window. He has failed to live up to the expectations since his £15million move two years ago. A return to Wolverhampton Wanderers is on the cards, with a loan move being the most probable option.
Lamptey has been an instant hit at Brighton under the guidance of Graham Potter. The Blues sold him for a meagre fee of £3million, and interestingly enough, there is no buy-back clause in his contract. Antonio Conte is an admirer and would like him at N17, but a transfer could be expensive considering his promise. His side may have to wait till next summer to pay around £50million to get the defender into their squad.
Lamptey to Spurs?
The 21-year-old had suffered a hamstring injury which has seen him miss a large part of 2021 but, that has not slowed him down since returning. He has made 32 appearances for Potter’s team and has scored one goal alongside five assists in the process.
Judging from his performances so far, the Englishman would be an essential addition to our squad. Doherty has to make way for him in the future, which is all the more important considering how Emerson Royal has not yet adapted to the league. Royal’s last performance against Thomas Tuchel’s side in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals was underwhelming, which further calls for the signing of Seagulls fullback.
The English youngster, on the other hand, has taken the league by storm so, we could use someone like him in the team. Moreover, Conte could help him reach a newer height under his guidance, just like he did with Achraf Hakimi at Inter Milan.

Any potential transfer would not be easy as we have to fight off our North London rivals to get the Brighton starlet. That is not the only issue as we have to shell out a big fee to complete the signing. However, his quality, potential and longevity tell us that we should meet the valuation.
The Spurs boss would need to be backed in the transfer windows through additions and, Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy have to make sure that the coach gets what he wants. Time will tell how this situation develops in the coming days, and we would hope that his next destination would be Tottenham.
