Antonio Conte provides honest Tottenham Hotspur appraisal following Chelsea defeat
According to Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has provided a ruthless assessment of his team’s performance against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
Tottenham lost to Chelsea by a scoreline of 2-0 and it could have been much worse. The score flatters Spurs if anything. Thomas Tuchel’s team could have scored a few more if they had their shooting boots on.
In the post-match press conference, Antonio Conte gave his honest verdict about the Chelsea team. The Italian is under no illusions regarding the job at Spurs.
“’I know the situation, it is very clear in this moment there is an important gap.”
Conte ruthlessly assessed his side’s performance and suggested the level of Tottenham at this point of time are miles off Chelsea. Tuchel’s side are one of the title challengers and Spurs have some ways to go before reaching the level.
“’We have to try to fight to stay in the league in a good position, but if we think we are close, I think we are not in the right way.”
The former Inter Milan manager made a surprising comparison between his team and Chelsea and suggested that Tottenham’s performance have been drastically deprived in the last few years.
“’I am always very honest with my players, we have to clap the performance of Chelsea. I like to tell the truth and with a good lie you don’t go anywhere.”
Conte joined Tottenham Hotspur in the early week of November. Even though, since then, the Spurs hasn’t lost a match in the Premier League, their domestic cup and European performance remains in concern. The North London side has already lost a UEFA Conference League match against NS Mura in the last week of November. Yesterday’s Carabao Cup defeat was the Italian manager’s second defeat in charge.

After Antonio Conte’s arrival, the club have shown several signs of a revival. It is imperative that we not now yield the initiative and keep working on gradual improvements.
Tottenham are 20 points far from the Premier League leader Manchester City, and it’s improbable that Spurs can bridge the gap. However, a fur four finish and a comeback in the Carabao Cup is still very much possible. Whether we will go to achieve that remains to be seen.
