Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte keeps ‘the door open’ for Christian Eriksen return
According to the Mirror, Antonio Conte was joyous to see Christian Eriksen back on the field and suggested that returning to Tottenham Hotspur is possible for the Denmark star.
The Danish international underwent a cardiac arrest during a EURO 2020 game in June last year and had since been on a sabbatical football. However, the 29-year-old recently made a comeback to the field and revealed that he ‘dreams’ of featuring for Denmark in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Eriksen helped Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan side to last season’s Serie A title, helping break Juventus’s vice-like grip on the trophy. The Denmark midfielder’s importance was evident as the current Spurs manager termed him a “really important player” and a “top man.”
However, the partnership between Christian Eriksen and Inter Milan came to an end last year by mutual consent. The Serie A regulations prevent the 29-year-old from featuring in professional games due to the implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) fitted in his chest. Therefore, the Denmark international is searching for a new club, and it seems Antonio Conte could help bring him home.
The Spurs boss was optimistic about seeing Eriksen back on the field after watching a video of the Denmark international practising.
“For sure, it was great, it was fine, to see him on a pitch, to see that he is kicking a ball.”
Conte also revealed that he was concerned for the 29-year-old’s health after experiencing the horrible event last year. The former Inter Milan manager added that the Denmark international would be welcomed at Tottenham Hotspur if he decides to return.
“And now, to see him again ready to play football is great news. I think for Christian, the door is always open.”
Christian Eriksen was a sensational performer for Tottenham. During the last spell, the attacking midfielder gave his 100 per cent for the club. Furthermore, the Denmark international was able to bag 69 goals and 90 assists in 305 appearances across all competitions, putting him in the bracket of the top-class midfielders.
After his move to Inter, the conversion rate decreased; however, Eriksen made significant contributions to their Scudetto triumph. A return to familiar hauntings at Spurs could be the step he needs to rejuvenate his career.

Tottenham requires quality reinforcements in the midfield, and Eriksen would be an incredible addition if he rediscovers his form. However, after the heart surgery and lack of playtime for several months, his fitness is in massive doubt.
The Spurs board should keep a tab on his development for the moment and come to an informed consensus. Handing Eriksen a short term deal might not be the worst idea.
