Dean Smith isn’t sure of Todd Cantwell staying at Norwich City amid Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to Evening Standard, Norwich manager Dean Smith couldn’t rule out the rumours linking Todd Cantwell to Tottenham Hotspur.
Todd Cantwell experienced a reasonably successful spell when he bagged six goals and eight assists in 34 appearances for the Canaries last season. However, things haven’t gone in the right direction for the player this time around.
The left midfielder has already fallen down the pecking order under Dean Smith and has only managed ten appearances across all competitions this term.
Cantwell’s lack of game time at Norwich could push him towards an exit. However, the 23-year-old wouldn’t have any problem finding his next home as several teams, including Tottenham and Newcastle United are interested in signing him.
The Canaries currently values him £15million and could be interested in negotiation if a club agrees to meet the demand. In his recent interview, Dean Smith suggested he doesn’t have a concrete say over his future.
“I know there is an awful lot of speculation about Todd at the moment, and there always is about good players,”
The Norwich manager also revealed that only the club hierarchy has the power to decide where Cantwell plays next.
“He is contention to play on Sunday, but I don’t deal with the speculation, Stuart [Webber, Norwich sporting director] does, so I don’t know is the honest answer.”
The Canaries manager also agreed that Norwich wants to keep the 23-year-old in the club.
“Hopefully, he will be here still and playing well because that is what we want from him.”
Tottenham have shown a decent performance spell under Antonio Conte. However, there are some concerns with the depth of the midfield. When given a chance, Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombélé and Giovani Lo Celso haven’t been up to the task. There is massive speculation over their future.

Conte currently doesn’t have a lot of options in the midfield. Therefore the addition of Cantwell could help the squad. The 23-year-old has shown spark and could make a difference. The English star could create major threats linking up with Heung-min Son in the left flack.
The move makes sense for Tottenham. With a good sporting project and an upgraded wage offer, the Spurs board certainly could push Norwich to the backfoot.
