Transfer News: Juventus reject a swap deal from Tottenham Hotspur for Weston McKennie
According to Calciomercato (h/t DailyMail), Tottenham Hotspur saw their opening offer that included Tanguy Ndombele in exchange for Weston McKennie being rejected by Juventus.
Weston McKennie is a nifty player who has shown glimpses of his talent at Juventus. The American youngster operates aggressively in the midfield area and often finds himself in scoring positions. Even though the 23-year-old is having a quiet season with two goals in 19 appearances, his performances have been promising.
Tottenham have been heavily linked with Weston McKennie in recent times. Current Spurs transfer chief Fabio Paratici was involved in the decision making role for Juventus for an extended period; therefore, the Italian has the knowledge about the USMNT star who signed for the Old Lady permanently in 2021.
It is believed that Tottenham already opened the talks a couple of weeks back. However, Spurs couldn’t meet Juventus’ demand of £25million. Furthermore, the North London team’s board offered out-of-favour star Tanguy Ndombele in a swap deal. Juventus for their part refused to bite.
Even though Massimiliano Allegri desires to keep hold of McKennie, Juventus would be open to selling if Tottenham meets the asking price. The Old Lady are open to a player swap but Antonio Conte’s team have to offer a different player who is a better fit for the Italians.
Tottenham requires a quality attacking midfielder and appear to be in the market for one. Even though there is a lack of depth in the Spurs midfield, the fantastic performance of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg has covered the losses.
However, when it comes to the attacking transition, players like Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min has been left on their own without quality support from the central zone.

Antonio Conte understands Serie A and is aware of the potential of the players in the Italian top flight. The Italian could get the best out of Weston McKennie.
Still only 23, the USMNT star has a long career ahead, and Tottenham could take advantage of just that. However, currently, the Juve star seems to be a little overpriced and Spurs might have to wait until the summer to make a renewed punt for his services.
