Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte issues injury updates on Eric Dier and Sergio Reguilon
Speaking in an interview, as quoted by Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has revealed that Eric Dier and Sergio Reguilon weren’t involved against Morecambe due to fitness issues.
Tottenham registered a 3-1 win against the League One side to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Even though Antonio Conte played a backline with five defenders, Eric Dier and Sergio Reguilon weren’t involved in the clash. Both players missed Spurs’ tie against Chelsea, and their absence was felt.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte agreed that Eric Dier suffered an injury, whereas Sergio Reguilon needed rest to tackle the hectic schedule.
“Eric Dier, yeah(an injury), but I hope that’s nothing serious. I hope so. About Sergio Reguilon, he was a bit tired, and we preferred to keep him out of the game.”
Even though the scoreline suggested that Tottenham earned an emphatic victory yesterday, the performance wasn’t up to the mark. Antonio Conte also agreed that his players were ‘not happy‘ in the first half. Eventually, the responsibility comes down to the players who were on the pitch.
Dier’s issue pushed the manager to pick Japhet Tanganga, who hasn’t featured in many games this season and it was showing. Tanguy Ndombele was perhaps the worst Spurs player on the pitch and Joe Rodon was also looking out of depth at times.
Hopefully, Dier is back soon and in time for our second-leg clash against Chelsea later this week. We need to overturn a two-goal deficit and Conte must field our best XI in order to force a comeback.

Sergio Reguilon has enjoyed a decent amount of game time under Conte and has provided some impressive displays. It is a relief to know that the Spaniard was just rested rather than suffering from a serious issue. Clearly, the former Inter Milan manager is saving the ex-Real Madrid left-back for the all-important EFL Cup game against Chelsea.
