Tottenham Hotspur earmark Gianluca Scamacca as Harry Kane’s backup
According to Give Me Sport (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Gianluca Scamacca if their pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic fails.
Scoring eight goals in 20 appearances in this campaign, Gianluca Scamacca has attracted much attention from Europe’s top sides. The Italian is one of the most promising youngsters in Serie A and a key man for Sassuolo. The I Neroverdi loaned the 23-year-old to Genoa last season, but as soon as they understood the actual value of the forward, they called him back.
Dependence on Harry Kane
Harry Kane has been the pillar of the Tottenham Hotspur frontline for years now. However, a poor spell from the Three Lions captain in the first half of the season suggests that Spurs cannot remain overly dependent on the 28-year-old. Bringing in a dependable backup for the English ace is imperative planning forward.
Tottenham have targeted Dusan Vlahovic lately to fill that void. However, a handful of European elites have kept the tab on the Serbian star who has been in scintillating form this season. Even though the Fiorentina forward hasn’t shown an interest in an exit in the January transfer window, it is expected that there would be an intense bidding war in the coming summer.
The competition could see his asking price rocket and Tottenham might be required to take a step back in their pursuit. Therefore, it seems that Antonio Conte’s side have identified Scamacca as the alternative signing for the January transfer window. However, there is also interest from Serie A giants Juventus for the Sassuolo star.
In the last game alone, we’ve seen how poor Tottenham’s forward depth is. Conte started Dele Alli, Bryan Gil- who have been out of form for several weeks. They couldn’t get the job done, and the Italian manager had to bring on the big guns to salvage the situation.

Scamacca’s emphatic performances in recent times earned him a call up from the Italian national side. Conte wouldn’t be getting a rookie but a 23-year-old, who has a lot of experience playing in the Italian top flight.
Tottenham could get Gianluca at a far lower price than Vlahovic. However, the Spurs board needs to be quick-footed to beat Juventus to his signature.
