Tottenham Hotspur lead Paris Saint-Germain in the transfer race for AC Milan star Franck Kessie
According to Rudy Galetti (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur are ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie. The Ivory Coast international has attracted attention as a result of uncertainty surrounding his contract situation at San Siro.
Kessie will become a free agent at the end of this season and is free to enter into negotiations to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this month. Tottenham have put their offer on the table and are in the pole position to sign him next summer.
PSG and an unknown Premier League club have also submitted their proposals but, Spurs are ahead of them in the race. Whether we can drive home that advantage remains to be seen.
Finalise the transfer!
It is good to see that we are at an advantage to landing the Serie A superstar. Spurs are bound to face more pressure moving forward as more suitors could turn up as the summer transfer window nears.
As such, Fabio Paratici has to put the matter to bed and must convince the Ivorian to sign a pre-contract agreement as soon as possible. Spurs cannot afford to let matters drag out and risk another team trumping them for the kill.
If the North London club does end up signing the 25-year-old, he would instantly uplift the quality of their midfield. The past few games have highlighted the lack of depth in the Spurs squad in regards to the quality.
The ever-reliable Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has had it rough recently, but the lack of options forces us to keep playing him even when he is out of form. Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele have failed to build on the rare moments of brilliance while Giovani Lo Celso is still finding his feet at N17.

Therefore, the Milan star would have many chances to earn a spot within the team, and we should use that to convince him to switch to North London. We cannot allow PSG to flex their financial might and will be well advised to get a deal done as soon as possible.
The Ivory Coast international is a complete midfielder and a leader, making him a perfect signing for Antonio Conte. The current crop of talent at the club is promising but lack key pieces. Securing Kessie will certainly bring down that number by one.
