Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte delivers shady reason for Tanguy Ndombele exclusion vs Chelsea
According to Daily Express, Antonio Conte has suggested that the decision to drop Tanguy Ndombele from the Tottenham Hotspur squad came from a higher authority.
Tanguy Ndombele is having a disappointing spell at Tottenham this season. Due to the injury issues in midfield, the French star did get some chances to win over Conte’s trust; but he failed in doing so. Moreover, the 25-year-old’s recent actions have landed him in hot waters.
When getting the nod from the manager to come off the field against Morecambe on Sunday, the French star was seen prolonging his exit from the field. With the team 1-0 down, this naturally infuriated the home fans, who started booing. The situation didn’t stop there as Ndombele went straight down the tunnel after exiting the ground.
The former Lyon star wasn’t included in the squad for yesterday’s Carabao Cup second-leg encounter against Chelsea. Even though it was seen as a tactical decision, Conte’s comments after the game created major speculations.
And when the Italian was asked about the reason for dropping Ndombele, the former Inter Milan manager suggested that it was a decision made by the higher authority at the club, and that he had to follow their verdict.
“It was a technical decision, but before to take the decision, I don’t take the decision if I don’t consult the club; there is the club line, and I have to follow the club line.”
Closing the Exit?
After falling from the pecking order in the last few matches, it seems as if the 25-year-old is currently facing difficulty in finding a position on the bench. At this moment, turning the tide seems increasingly challenging for the French international. Therefore, a move away from Tottenham seems like the ideal solution for both parties.
If he decides to take that road, there may not be a scarcity of choices. It is believed that Jose Mourinho’s Roma have kept a tab on the midfield star, whereas Napoli and Juventus have also shown an interest lately.

The recent negligence from Spurs suggests they could be open to such offers for offloading the out-of-favour star. However, nothing concrete is there to back such a claim as of now. It remains to be seen what the finances around such a potential deal could be.
Having signed him on a club-record fee of £55million back in 2019, his contract runs until the summer of 2025.
