Antonio Conte admits Chelsea deserve to play in the Carabao Cup final over Tottenham Hotspur
According to the club’s official website, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte suggested that his team had good chances to complete a comeback against Chelsea, but were unlucky on the night.
Spurs suffered a disappointing defeat against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg to bow out of yet another competition. An Antonio Rudiger header was enough to seal the 3-0 aggregate win for the visitors. Conte’s team showed urgency yesterday, which they lacked in the first leg, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.
Performance-wise, both teams might have been in the same boat. Fortunes could have been different had some of the key decisions gone our way. Tottenham saw two penalty decisions overturned by the VAR before a Harry Kane goal in the game’s dying minutes was called offside.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte suggested that even though Chelsea had the edge over our team considering the performance in both legs, Spurs should have secured a better result in yesterday’s game. The Spurs boss went on to add that Chelsea deserves to take part in the showpiece event next month.
“Over two legs, Chelsea deserved to go to the final. But I think in the second leg tonight, we deserved a better final result. We created many chances, and the players played with a great intensity, with a will, a desire not to lose the game.”
The former Inter Milan manager also hinted that the decisions that went against his team played a huge role in the result. Luck plays a huge role in football, especially when it comes to matches against top teams.
“We were also a bit unlucky. I don’t like to use this word, but sometimes it can happen during the game, two penalties that were changed and a goal disallowed after VAR.”
While it is d beatable if we could have turned the tide had VAR favoured us, it is no excuse for the poor displays we put up over the two legs. While the second leg saw us show more of a fight, the abject outing the first time around more or less sealed the tie.

With us falling short once again, the players have to take responsibility and come back stronger in the upcoming matches. We have to considerably raise our game if we are serious about challenging for major titles.
The FA Cup now represents our last chance for silverware this season. But, if our team continues to be outperformed by small clubs like Morecambe, then there is no doubt that we will go trophyless for another season.
