Chelsea latest team news ahead of Premier League clash vs Tottenham Hotspur
According to Football.London, Chelsea will be struggling with a number of injury concerns heading into the crunch Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur later today.
The Blues have been ravaged by injuries throughout the season, and they are yet to see the back of it. Their defence has been dealt with several major blows and players continue to remain on the sidelines for the match.
Andreas Christensen contracted Covid-19 and had missed the club’s previous two fixtures against Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion. He is not in contention to feature against Tottenham and will miss out.
Trevoh Chalobah is another centre-back who will sit out despite returning to team training sessions. He has been suffering from a long term hamstring issue, and Thomas Tuchel is not keen to risk him.
Reece James and Ben Chilwell are long term absentees and are not in line to feature against Spurs. Chilwell is ruled out for the season, whereas James has just returned to individual training. Both of them have been crucial to Chelsea’s early season form and would surely be missed.
Edouard Mendy is still on international duty at the Africa Cup of nations, ensuring Kepa Arrizabalaga will continue in goal. The Spaniard showed his worth in the Carabao Cup semifinals against us and we cannot take Mendy’s absence for granted.
Boost for Spurs?
The defence has been crucial for Tuchel’s success at Chelsea and missing a bunch of the key players would be a huge benefit for us. However, they had similar issues when we faced them in the Carabao Cup and the results did not reflect their struggles.
They have been going through a slump of sorts in the league and the onus is on us to take the game to them. Tuchel’s side has shown themselves to be vulnerable if attacked and that is exactly what Antonio Conte should do.
Tottenham, meanwhile are boosted by the return of Eric Dier, whose absence has been felt in the centre of defence. Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min will be on the sidelines, plus there are two additional concerns that are unknown at this instant.

Three points today would put us just five points behind Tuchel’s team while having four matches in hand. Spurs must be ready to take the game to their opponents and showcase that they have learned from the losses we endured against them this month.
Whether it will prove to be third time lucky for Conte against his former side remains to be seen.
