Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele closer to exit as Paris Saint-Germain enter into advanced talks

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Paris Saint Germain have entered into advanced talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential loan deal for midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. Although a deal has not been agreed as of yet, both teams are confident that the move will go through before the end of the winter transfer window.

Ndombele was brought to north London in 2019 from Lyon in a record deal for Spurs, making him their most expensive asset. He came amidst much hype and was expected to be the face of Spurs’ midfield in the coming years.

However, things have not gone to plan since, with Ndombele failing to live up to his price tag and putting in underwhelming performances for Spurs in recent times. The man who brought him to North London departed too, with Mauricio Pochettino now in charge of PSG.

With Spurs looking to cut their losses on the 25-year-old midfielder, Pochettino seems to have offered them a way out, with the Argentine manager keen on reuniting with Ndombele. The manager is said to be a keen admirer of the player, despite his performances for the Lilywhites.

Incumbent Tottenham boss Antonio Conte does not seem to have Ndombele in his plans for the future, and the club is looking to ship him out to PSG on a loan deal until the summer. PSG apparently wanted the move to be a straight swap with Leandro Paredes going the other way, but that doesn’t seem likely now.

Finally!

Although the Parc des Princes outfit is said to be in advanced talks with Spurs over the loan deal for Ndombele, both sides seem to be undecided over the France international’s future beyond the end of the campaign. PSG are hoping to include an option-to-buy clause in the deal, while Tottenham want it to be an obligation instead, along with them paying the player’s full wages.

With Spurs’ record signing looking like he’s heading out the door before the January transfer window deadline, fans will be wondering just what happened to the Frenchman, who was a revelation while at Lyon in France.

Tottenham looked like they pulled off a major transfer coup in the summer of 2019, but what followed soon after would baffle many. The Frenchman looked like a shadow of his former self, struggling to nail down a starting spot amongst the many managers that have come through the door at Spurs since his arrival.

Clearly, there is something about the midfielder that has Pochettino still keen on signing the player for the second time in his career. Whatever the reason behind it may be, this comes as a chance to cut our losses on Ndombele.

Hopefully, we see good progress being made in the next few days, as we near the transfer window’s deadline. It would have really not been a poor sight seeing Paredes swap places at N17 with Ndombele, given that the Argentine international has been a solid central midfielder at AS Roma, Zenit, and now PSG.

But that seems like a situation we may have to get over, with Paredes eager to stay at Parc des Princes and fight for a place in their midfield.
