Yannick Carrasco rejected the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window
According to Marca via Sport Witness (h/t Shields Gazette), Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United were unable to secure the transfer of Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid.
The Belgian international has been putting up some impressive performances for the Spanish club of late. The 28-year-old who is predominantly deployed as a winger can also play as a wing-back if needed.
He has been a mainstay for the Colchoneros in the last few seasons. He has played 204 games for Atletico Madrid and been a pivotal part of Diego Simeone’s setup at the Wanda Metropolitano. This could make it tough for any club to lure him away from Atletico Madrid.
Yannick Carrasco and what he could bring to Tottenham Hotspur
Despite not being able to land several targets, Spurs managed to bring in Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur after finally letting go of Dele Alli on a permanent move and several others on loan deals.
Antonio Conte has tried to establish his brand of intense attacking football at N-17 this season. While the Italian manager did not have the luxury of a pre-season he would be hoping that the players can buy into his vision after spending a decent amount of time at the club.
Carrasco has a plethora of experience at the elite level with Madrid. The Belgian international could have also provided a fresh injection in the attacking side as Tottenham look to end the season on a high.
The club could do with an injection of quality as they look to close the gap at the top. That being said we will have to work with what we have at the moment.
