Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte praises forward Harry Kane’s ‘attitude and commitment’ after brace in the FA Cup
Speaking after his side’s 3-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte showered praise on talisman Harry Kane, with the striker scoring a double against his Premier League opponents to knock them out of the competition.
Kane looked to be in supreme form last night, adding a brace to his goal tally for the season and helping his team progress to the next stage of the FA Cup. After a rough start to the campaign, the Englishman looks to have rediscovered his scoring touch yesterday.
Conte hailed the striker’s performance against Brighton and also complimented his teammates as he said that they were trying to up the intensity in training to improve their performances in games.
“Then, for sure, to score two goals is important because he’s number nine, he’s used to scoring goals. We are working on the physical condition with the team. We’re trying to improve the intensity, also during the training sessions. I think all these situations can improve the performance with all the players.”
With this, Spurs entered the fifth round of the FA Cup, strengthening their resolve to win the competition at the end of the season and adding a long-overdue trophy to their cabinet. The north London club has not won any silverware since the League Cup in 2008.
Kane’s most important trait
Though we all know Kane to be an elite striker, the England skipper has gone through a recent patchy form, struggling to find the back of the net despite all his efforts. He seemed to have lost his goal-scoring boots as Spurs suffered from the lack of a regular outlet for goals.
However, Conte refused to be bogged down by the player’s lack of goals this term, saying that even when Kane did not score, his attitude and commitment to his team were his most important traits.
“Harry, in the past, in the games that he didn’t score, I liked his performance. Harry is a player who’s scored a lot in the past as a number nine. But what we can appreciate – me and the whole team – is his attitude and commitment for the whole team. I think this is the most important thing for us.”
Kane started the current season after a long-drawn-out transfer saga as the England international expressed a desire to leave Tottenham, which eventually ended with the striker staying on for another year.
This drama seems to have played on the forward’s mind as he started the campaign poorly, looking out of form and low on confidence as Spurs stuttered to a standstill after an unbeaten run in the first month of the season. It also saw Conte’s predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo get sacked by the club for their poor results.

With Conte’s arrival, Kane looks to have slowly built his form back up, with his goalscoring touch in full display last night against Brighton. The 28-year-old seemed to be enjoying himself on the pitch, and we saw the old Kane back with the team.
With the second half of the season yet to be played, Kane and co will look to build on this win and look to secure some silverware at the end of the season. The FA Cup looks like a real possibility for Spurs to win this campaign, and Conte will hope that side can keep producing results like that against Brighton in the quest to win the competition.
