Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane wants boss Antonio Conte to be backed in the summer
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane has asked for assurances from Spurs to back head coach Antonio Conte with new signings in the summer if he is to commit his future to the club.
January saw the Lilywhites sign two players on deadline day from Juventus. While the club did not sign an out-and-out centre forward to play alongside the 28-year-old or as a backup to him, Kane staying at N17 was a welcome boost.
Kane’s future at the club is now said to be down to whether the club provides Conte with enough funds in the summer to sign the players he requires to build his team. The Italian has been tasked with firing Spurs to the top of the league since taking over towards the end of the year.
Last summer saw a lot of transfer rumours surrounding Kane and Tottenham, with the forward seeing a move to defending champions Manchester City break down after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy quoted an amount too high for City to match.
Assurances for the summer
The English skipper is said to be happy with Conte and his methods so far, with the player eyeing the new manager as the one who could help his boyhood club break their trophy drought. Spurs’ last achievement was the League Cup all the way back in 2008.
Kane wants guarantees from Levy that the club will back Conte with new players ahead of the new season. If Levy cannot assure this, the striker may look for a move outside north London and pursue his quest for trophies elsewhere.
Kane’s demands are well-founded, with Conte hinting at wanting new signings in the recent past. The club somewhat failed him in that regard as, despite the signings of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski on the last day of the window, Spurs were beaten to the signatures of Adama Traore and Luis Diaz.
Our talisman has not won a title in his senior career so far, and his desire to win one with his boyhood club can be easily understood. Kane is an ambitious player, and he has always given his best to Tottenham to help them win a trophy in recent times.

New signings may also help the Englishman, who himself is on a poor goalscoring run this season. Without a backup striker in the squad and no one to provide him with any competition or breaks from the long season, the forward’s performances have dipped this term, scoring only five goals in the Premier League.
Levy will need to flex his financial muscles and provide Kane and Conte with these assurances, else he could risk losing arguably his best player in the summer, and probably even his manager, who could walk away from the club if he is not supported adequately.
