Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola praises Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane after heroics vs Man City
Speaking after his side’s 3-2 loss at home against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday (h/t Evening Standard), Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Spurs forward Harry Kane for his performance during the game.
Kane scored a double against league leaders and defending champions Manchester City, condemning them to a rare league defeat at home. The English striker gave his side the lead in the second half, and then popped up in injury time to net the winner.
Guardiola said that Kane’s abilities and talents needed no further showing, as the entire United Kingdom was aware of how good the striker was on the night.
“It’s not necessary to show the goals he scored tonight to show his quality on the ball, all the UK knows it.”
Kane has not had a great season this time around, failing to hit his usual high standards and being Spurs’ go-to man for goals. However, the England captain put these worries to rest and was at his magnificent best on Saturday.
In the past
It is no secret that Guardiola wanted to sign the England international the previous summer to add to his attacking ranks. However, the Spaniard saw multiple bids rejected by Spurs even though Kane was keen on a move to the Etihad.
The Man City manager, when asked about Kane’s failed move to Manchester last summer, brushed these links away and said that it is in the past. It remains to be seen whether the Cityzens will come knocking on Tottenham’s doors once again in the summer for the striker.
“It [signing Kane] was never an option. Everyone knows we were interested but it was not an option. Forget it, it’s in the past.”
The fact that Kane put them to the sword will have stung Guardiola, given the massive interest in the forward before the start of the current campaign. With this result, the Lilywhites have now completed the double over City, beating them home and away in the league this season.
Spurs fans will also be delighted about Kane slowly returning to his best, after the striker also scored a brace against Brighton in the FA Cup a few weeks back to help them progress to the fifth round of the cup competition as Kane and Co. chase a trophy at the end of the season.
