Former Watford ace predicts Manchester United transfer merry-go-round with Harry Kane departure
Writing in his column for The Sun, ex-Watford star Troy Deeney believes that Manchester United will snap up former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino and current Spurs ace Harry Kane in the summer.
Spurs nearly lost Kane to rivals Manchester City ahead of the current season, with the striker keen on the move. However, a failed move saw the Englishman stay on with his boyhood club for another year.
Deeney, who captained the Watford team to promotion to the Premier League in the 2014/15 season, was of the opinion that strikers will be in high demand in the market in the summer, with multiple clubs scouting for new options to add to their attacking ranks.
“This summer will kick-off a merry-go-round of strikers changing clubs. It is now the year of the striker. Manchester City still haven’t got a striker in. Manchester United are in the same boat. Real Madrid and Barcelona are looking to get back on top. Even Arsenal are hoping to break back in.”
Kane’s links to Manchester City were brought up again when the two sides clashed on Saturday, with the Englishman netting a brace against the Cityzens to hand them a rare home defeat.
Transfer merry-go-round
Manchester United are very likely to enter the market in the summer, in pursuit of a striker and permanent manager. Interim boss Ralf Rangnick will take up a consultancy role at the end of the season, and with Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani not getting any younger, the club could need a talisman to lead the line.
Deeney believes that Spurs will be United’s target, with Kane an option for a striker to add to the Red Devils’ attacking ranks. The Englishman is in the prime of his career and may be what the Old Trafford side needs.
“For what it’s worth, here’s what I think will happen: Mauricio Pochettino will leave Paris Saint-Germain and go to Manchester United, as will Harry Kane.”
After last summer’s transfer saga surrounding Kane and Manchester City, Deeney has predicted the same saga to pop up once again, but with Manchester United as the likely destination for the England skipper.
The Lilywhites did well to hold on to their star striker this season, but only time will tell if they can be successful once again at the end of the campaign. It would be a huge blow to manager Antonio Conte if that happens, losing his sole senior striker to a direct rival.

Kane is ambitious and wants trophies. As things stand, his best option to win some silverware would be to move to one of the Manchester clubs who can afford to sign him. Unfortunately for us, the club looks like a rebuilding team at the moment instead of an established side.
In all honesty, Poch isn’t our boss anymore so we can barely care about that anymore. But Kane joining Man United will not only strengthen a direct top-four rival, but also weaken us up front to a very large extent.
