Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte targets Inter Milan duo to bolster his squad in the summer
According to football journalist Pete O’Rourke via Give Me Sport (h/t football.london), Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has eyed Inter Milan duo Stefan de Vrij and Arturo Vidal to add more steel to his squad in the summer.
Spurs only managed to sign Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur on deadline day of the January transfer window to bolster their midfield options, as the club struggled to get more faces in through the doors last month.
The north London club now look set to make up for their transfer business from last month in the summer, as Conte wants to raid his former club for de Vrij and Vidal to provide some stability to his squad.
Both players were vital to Inter winning the Serie A title under Conte last season, with the experienced players being regulars under the Italian manager as they won their first Scudetto in 11 years.
Experience to the squad
Of late, the Spurs boss has highlighted the need to bring in experienced players to N17 if the club wants to challenge for trophies and fight for a place at the top in the Premier League and Champions League.
It is precisely for this reason that Conte has targeted the Inter Milan pair, given that he already knows what to expect from the players from his time at the club. Proven talents at the top level, the veteran duo will bring oodles of experience to North London.
Both Vidal and de Vrij know how to fit into Conte’s style of play and his preferred system on the pitch, which would make it easier for the players to settle into life in north London. Signing these stars would be a major step in achieving the manager’s dream for trophies.
It may also not be that hard to prise the pair away from the Serie A holders, as de Vrij has only 18 months left on his current deal while Vidal is a free agent in the summer as things stand. This makes them attractive options to pursue at the end of the season.

Despite both players being over 30, Conte is looking for experienced players to add to his side, and no one does it better than the Inter Milan hardmen. Their prior relationship with Conte is certainly a boost for Tottenham, although it remains to be seen whether the club will actively pursue these targets in the summer.
Some fans may be worried about the manager aiming for players like Vidal who is 34 years old. Conte knows how to get the most out of his players, with proof lying in the Serie A trophy he won with the Chilean last season.
