Antonio Conte issues warning to Tottenham Hotspur players regarding Burnley threat

Antonio Conte has sent a warning to the Tottenham Hotspur players on the challenge that awaits them away to Burnley later today. The Premier League game will take place at Turf Moor, where both teams will be eager to secure all three points for their respective reasons.

Tottenham are coming off the back of a great result against Manchester City, which has breathed new life into their fight for a top-four finish. Sean Dyche’s side also received a shot in the arm thanks to their emphatic 3-0 victory against Brighton and Hove Albion. The hosts have been on the rise since late January, prompting the Italian boss to warn his team about their threat.

Speaking in an interview with the club’s media (h/t Tottenham Hotspur official website), Conte pointed out Burnley cannot be underestimated despite being involved in the relegation dogfight. He added that Spurs must be attentive at all times to deal with the Clarets. Finally, he added that they need to win duels, second balls and mark their opponents well to secure the required result.

Let’s keep building momentum!

“They are in a fantastic moment of form. Their last result was very good, a 3-0 win at Brighton who, for me, are a very good team. They drew against Arsenal away, drew at home against United, then lost 1-0 at Liverpool, maybe they deserved more. You know that Burnley like to play a longer ball, lots of crosses, lots of duels. We have to be prepared to fight for the second ball and defensively, we have to be strong, to pay attention for crosses, to mark well. At the same time, when we have the ball, we have to hurt them.”

Dyche’s team’s recent form shows us that they certainly have what it takes to challenge the teams at the top despite their league position. We cannot afford to take them lightly in any case, especially after the addition of Wout Weghorst in the January transfer window.

Weghorst has clearly made a massive impact on their results and would create issues for our defence. His aerial prowess to win headers, hold up play and bring others into the match has certainly caused problems for top teams in recent fixtures.

The 52-year-old has realised that as well and has given appropriate instructions to his players. The likes of Cristian Romero and Eric Dier need to be at their best to win the aerial duels against a side who excel at it. Our midfielders also need to support the defence by winning the second ball to stop Burnley in their tracks.

Anything less than three points would be disappointing, to say the least, especially after the win against Man City. We must be the victors at the end of the match, even with the challenge that awaits us at Turf Moor. Let’s hope that the Spurs squad will take their manager’s advice and secure a great result later today.
