Tottenham Hotspur set to open fresh contract talks with Harry Kane next summer
According to ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are expected to begin fresh contract talks with Harry Kane in the summer transfer window. His future at N17 remains uncertain despite the improvement in fortunes following the arrival of Antonio Conte.
Kane wanted to leave Tottenham the previous summer after becoming disillusioned with life at the club due to the lack of silverware. Manchester City tried to sign him as a result, but they failed to meet the valuation of £150million in transfer fees. Chelsea were also keeping tabs on him before they eventually brought in Romelu Lukaku.
Man City are still keeping an eye on the England skipper with a summer move in mind. Hence, Spurs are keen to put an end to the speculation by having the striker pen a new deal. With Manchester United tipped to be a potential destination for Mauricio Pochettino, we may have more teams in the fray for Kane next summer.
Will Kane renew his contract?
With everything that has happened regarding the 28-year-old forward, it is better not to discuss this issue during the season. At the same time, it would also give us some time to prepare ourselves and convince the striker to commit his long term future to Tottenham.
The Premier League superstar has been impressed by Conte and his efforts in trying to overhaul the squad and improve the quality in a short period. That could be of great help next summer if Fabio Paratici and co can back the boss by bringing in the desired transfer targets.
However, it is claimed that securing Champions League football next term will not guarantee Kane renewing his current deal with the North London side. Since he is close to entering his thirties, he wants to add trophies to his playing career, something that has so far eluded him.
As such, the progress under the Italian boss could be one of the influential factors in the centre-forward’s future prospects.

Even though the 52-year-old manager is in his first season at the club, it seems that we must find some way to achieve success alongside Champions League qualification to give us a strong base for negotiations. The FA Cup is still an opportunity to extinguish our title drought, so we must give everything to try and win the domestic competition.
One could argue that we could simply keep the Spurs ace even if he does not renew his contract as it only expires in 2024. But we have seen the repercussions of the summer saga and how his form has been affected this term. We could be in line for a crucial time in the months ahead of next summer as it will give us an idea about our chances of enjoying a successful negotiation.
