Rio Ferdinand expects manager Antonio Conte to walk out on Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Speaking on BT Sport via Youtube (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand does not expect Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte to stay at the club beyond the summer given the current situation in north London.

Conte led his side out against Leeds United last night at Elland Road and came away with a 4-0 win, which was the best response he could hope for after losing 1-0 to Burnley in midweek.

Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles with Man United, said he does not think the manager will stay at Tottenham ahead of the new season based on the news in the media and the quality of players he has at his disposal at the moment.

“I don’t think he’ll be here after the summer. Based on what I’ve seen in the media and the players he’s got there.”

Spurs needed a win desperately against Leeds, as they had previously lost four out of five games in the Premier League, seriously hampering their chances of playing Champions League football next season.

“Very surprised if he’s still here”

Conte has struggled to take his side up the Premier League table of late, with the team’s inconsistency costing them. The Italian’s squad currently sit seventh in the table, although he will be glad about the team having a couple of games in hand to use to their advantage later on in the season.

Ferdinand said that he feels this season may be Conte’s last as Spurs manager, admitting that he would be very surprised if he saw the former Inter Milan manager in the dugout at Tottenham next season.

“I think he’ll be quite comfortable going listen, I didn’t know it was that bad, and he’ll feel no way about walking away. He’s not someone who will look back on regret that, I’ll be very surprised if he’s still here.”

Conte is renowned to be a master tactician, capable of turning his sides into world-beaters as the Spurs boss has won several titles across different leagues to prove his worth. A serial winner, the Lilywhites would have been dreaming of trophies coming back to north London with the Italian in charge.

However, the reality is far from these hopes as Tottenham languish in the middle of the PL table and are unable to maintain a winning run in the league. They still have the FA Cup trophy they could get their hands on, but the journey will not be easy given their recent form.

Having led Chelsea to the league title before, the English game is not new to Conte, which further gives evidence of the fact that it is the Spurs squad that may be letting him down in his quest for success.

Ferdinand hinted at the players being a reason for Conte to leave the club in the summer, but only time will tell if his prediction comes true or not. For now, the Tottenham manager will be focused on ending the season strongly with Spurs.
