PL rivals touted to be leading the race to land Tottenham superstar

Bayern told to target Harry Kane after this season.

Manchester City bookies’ favourites to land Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane

As per Betfair (h/t The Sun), Manchester City are the bookies’ favourites to land Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane in the summer, after the Manchester club nearly landed their man last year.

The English striker lost out yet another chance to win a trophy at club level on Tuesday night as Tottenham crashed out of the fifth round of the FA Cup. This despite playing against a Championship side in Middlesbrough.

Despite being a world-class forward, Kane has not yet won a single trophy at Spurs, and his ambition to win silverware saw him try to move to City last year in the summer. Pep Guardiola’s side could also do with a striker and it remains to be seen if they will rekindle the interest in Kane.

A long-drawn transfer saga eventually came to a close after club chairman Daniel Levy quoted a fee that was too much for the Cityzens to afford. Kane stayed put but has struggled to reach his usual levels this season.

PSG close second

The Manchester club may be returning for Kane in the summer, as Betfair have City at 11/2 odds to land the England skipper at the end of the season. Given the side’s previous interest in the player, this valuation is hardly surprising.

Clubs from outside the UK are also said to be keen on the striker, as Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are also touted as prospective targets. Only time will tell how accurate these numbers are to be in the summer.

The Tottenham academy graduate cannot be faulted for having ambition, as it is only natural to want to win trophies at club level after personally investing so much in the team. He also came painstakingly close to winning a tournament with England at the Euro 2020 but failed at the final hurdle.

The harsh truth facing Kane is that other clubs offer him a better chance at winning titles than Spurs. It will certainly be a hard decision to choose to leave the club that made him a superstar, but now at the prime of his career, his situation can be sympathised with.

Losing our best player to a direct rival is too big a blow to get over that easily, but manager Antonio Conte’s arrival may provide hope. The Italian was brought in earlier this season to lead the club to glory and end their trophy drought, and if there is anyone capable of pulling off this task, it is Conte.

Whether this sign of intent from Tottenham to appoint Conte is enough to convince Kane remains a mystery. All eyes will be on what happens in the summer, as it may finally bring an answer to this long-drawn transfer saga.
