Tottenham Hotspur prepare massive contract offer for Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij
According to InterLive.it (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a huge contract offer to land Inter Milan star Stefan de Vrij at the end of the season in order to bolster their rearguard.
de Vrij is one of the most experienced defenders on the market in Italy, having played in Serie A for nearly a decade with Lazio and Inter. A regular for the Nerazzurri, he could be playing his last season for the club this term.
The centre-back is out of contract with the Italian champions next season, which means that Inter risks losing him for free next summer. Given this, they may take a chance and sell him at the end of the current campaign to get some funds.
The Dutchman is someone Spurs manager Antonio Conte is very familiar with, having worked with him over the past two years as the pair lifted the Scudetto title together at the end of the 2020/21 season.

It is said that Inter may look to offload the player in the summer keeping in mind the Netherlands international’s age, contract situation, and form. Having turned 30, the current champions may not see him as a viable option for the future.
Taking advantage of this situation, Tottenham could very well swoop in for the defender as they are preparing a £100k-a-week contract to land him. Given the massive sum, the Lilywhites look to be showing serious intent to sign de Vrij at the end of the season.
Used to playing in a back three, de Vrij is expected to slot in perfectly at Spurs if the club manages to secure his services ahead of next season. The defender would also add massive experience to a rearguard that looks to lack stability and leadership.
Having played under Conte before, both player and manager know what to expect from each other and what the expectations will be. This is only sure to help the Dutchman settle in at north London if he accepts Tottenham’s bumper contract offer.

Despite Inter looking to offload the player due to his age, they are still said to expect a transfer fee in the region of £20-25m for the defender. It could well be worth the money, given the Lilywhites’ interest in him and the manager well aware of what he brings to the table.
In a transfer season where clubs are looking at young and emerging players to bolster their squad, perhaps Tottenham will be playing their cards right by going behind an experienced defender. After all, what the squad requires at the moment is experience and hunger to win trophies, and not potential talent that they can develop in the future.
