PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino wants Tottenham Hotspur return, claims former Spurs star Alan Brazil
Speaking on talkSPORT‘s breakfast bulletin on Friday, former Tottenham Hotspur star Alan Brazil claimed that Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to return to the Premier League, and wants to manage Spurs once again.
Pochettino left Tottenham in 2019 after he failed to deliver results in his final season, despite being loved by fans and helping the club reach multiple finals in competitions.
Despite PSG sporting director Leonardo claiming earlier in the week that the Argentine manager had no intention of leaving the club, Brazil claimed that it was false, saying that the incumbent Paris boss wants a reunion with his former side.
“From the horse’s mouth, that is not the case. He wants to come back to the Premier [League] and he wants to come back with Tottenham.”
This is quite a claim to make, given that Spurs only recently appointed Antonio Conte as their manager. To add to it, Pochettino has also been linked to the Manchester United job at the end of the season, with Ralf Rangnick only managing the Red Devils on an interim basis.
“Come back to Spurs”
Conte’s appointment has not seen much success following the Italian to north London, with the club sure to go trophyless in his debut season. The Lilywhites are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, possibly in danger of missing a UCL qualification spot by the end of the campaign.
Brazil, who played for both United and Spurs along with the Scotland national team, said that he could not refute the claim that Pochettino could end up at Old Trafford, but he knew that the Argentine wants to return to N17 in his heart.
“I’m not saying Poch won’t go to [Man] United, because if he can’t get back to Spurs and United want him, he’d be a fool probably to say no. But I do know, in his heart, he wants to come back to Spurs.”
The current PSG boss was a hit at Spurs, taking over in 2014 after making quite the impression in England with his work at Southampton. While in north London, the manager oversaw many successful victories and developed quite a few stars under his tutelage – we have Pochettino to thank for Harry Kane and his goals.
That run to the Champions League final in the 2018/19 season will forever be memorable for fans, despite the loss in the end. It was the closest we ever came to winning a trophy, and Pochettino was responsible for it.

However, there has been no indication from Tottenham to indicate that they are looking for a new manager anytime soon, especially given that Conte took the job only last year. In fact, the Italian has not yet had a full season with the club to work his magic and deliver results.
Although a claim that will make Spurs fans nostalgic, it is quite a wild one from Brazil to make. Given that United are keen on signing the Argentine for themselves, it remains to be seen if we see him back in the Premier League. If he does make his way back to England, we can hope that it is with us and not our direct rivals in the Red Devils.
