Everton manager Frank Lampard gives injury update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash
In his pre-match conference (h/t Everton official site), Frank Lampard gave a fitness update regarding Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of their Premier League fixture with Tottenham Hotspur.
Similar to Spurs, the Merseysiders have also had their own issues this season. The Goodison Park outfit is languishing in the bottom half of the table and Lampard was brought in to replace Rafa Benitez after a string of disappointing results.
The Toffees gave league leaders Manchester City a good run for their money in their last PL game but succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat and will now take on the Lilywhites in what will be an important game for both sides. Tottenham would also be looking to bounce back after a disappointing midweek exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Middlesbrough.
In his pre-match presser (h/t Everton official site), the former Chelsea manager addressed the speculation surrounding Calvert-Lewin. There is no confirmation about the striker’s availability but the 43-year-old is hoping that he can make his return in time for the game on Monday.
“I’m hopeful [he will be ready for Spurs]. He is going to train with us on Saturday. I’ve just spoken to him, and he was very pleased with his session on Friday morning. Hopefully, he integrates with the squad on Saturday and we will see how he is for Monday.
What could this mean for Tottenham Hotspur?
The North Londoners have struggled to garner favourable results week in, week out in recent times. Whilst there was a renewed sense of enthusiasm after the appointment of Antonio Conte, the Italian manager has largely been left frustrated due to their lack of consistency on the pitch.
An early exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League as well as both the domestic cups in England means that the Lilywhites are only competing in the Premier League this campaign. With all of these developments in mind, a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season may well be akin to a trophy for many of the fans this season.
The 54-year-old manager has an impressive resume with exploits across Europe that include clubs like Juventus, Chelsea, and most recently, Inter Milan. Despite those splendid feats, he has found it hard to imprint his mentality on the club until now and would now be looking to finish the Premier League season on a high.
This is much easier said than done and the club from N-17 will have to fight for every point if they are to salvage the situation. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was in fine form last season when he scored 21 goals and provided five assists in 39 matches across all competitions for the Merseysiders.
He has largely been ruled out due to injury and has only played 682 minutes for the Toffees this season. That being said, his availability could be a big threat for us; his exploits inside the box is widely known in the PL while he is not too shabby in aerial battles as well.

Spurs would be looking to secure another massive three points in their bid for a top-four finish. The Lilywhites have looked fragile at the back on occasions but will be hoping to put on a solid display against the Toffees irrespective of whether or not the Sheffield-born player makes an appearance on the pitch.
