Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur told why they should sign Torino star Gleison Bremer by his teammate
According to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Mirror), Torino player Mergim Vojvoda has praised teammate Gleison Bremer, who has been targeted by Tottenham Hotspur this summer. Spurs would have to battle with the likes of Manchester City, Man United, and Liverpool for the talented defender.
Bremer came through the ranks at Desportivo Brasil and enjoyed a season on loan at Sao Paulo, before moving to Atletico Mineiro in 2017. He spent 18 months at Mineiro before switching to Torino in the summer of 2018.
The Brazilian’s move to Italy has only made him develop to be a better player, as Vojvoda talked about the various qualities that the defender has in his arsenal that make him a great fit for Torino.
“Physically, he is strong. He works hard and as soon as I arrived, I was impressed by how much he trained. He is also fast, he is tall and has made a great leap in quality on a technical level, with the ball at his feet. Work pays off, you can see it with him.”
Tottenham could certainly use a strong defender like him for their rearguard, given how we have been unable to keep clean sheets and have endured a topsy-turvy season with our inconsistent form.
“An animal”
Bremer has been hugely impressive for the Italian club is season, helping Torino achieve the fifth-best defensive record in Serie A. This is a massive achievement for a club that currently sits in 11th place in the league.
Vojvoda said that he hopes that the Brazilian stays in Italy beyond the summer because of how important he has been for Torino the past couple of seasons. Spurs, however, will look to snap Bremer up in the summer to bolster their own defence.
“[Bremer] is very strong, an animal. He has made an incredible leap in quality in the last year. But he can still improve a lot because he is young. He has renewed, we hope he stays because he is really strong.”
Bremer may not be a household name in Serie A or widely known outside Italy, but his performances and talent speak for themselves. Described to be an ‘animal’ by his teammate, he looks to be the kind of strong and physical player who could thrive in the Premier League.
Tottenham would be closely monitoring him for this reason, given their own defensive frailties. Clean sheets have been rare this term in north London, and the Brazilian’s presence at the back for Spurs next season may address this issue.

Eric Dier and Christian Romero are arguably our best defenders at the club, but even they have been unable to arrest our inconsistent form and poor results of late. This makes it clear that we need defensive reinforcements next term, and Bremer looks to be an attractive option given his current form.
Only 24, the player also has massive scope for improvement despite already looking the part in Italy. Hopefully, Spurs are able to pursue him actively in the summer and convince him to move to England and play in one of the world’s best leagues under one of the world’s best managers in Antonio Conte.
