Barcelona turn their attention to Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie after Andreas Christensen agreement
According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun), Barcelona have turned their attention to secure the signature of Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie after reaching an agreement with Andreas Christensen. The AC Milan midfielder is in line to depart San Siro at the end of this season.
Kessie will see his current contract with Milan expire in the summer transfer window. That means he is legally able to engage in pre-contract agreement talks with clubs outside Italy. Tottenham and Barca are looking to take advantage of that situation alongside Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
The Blaugrana side are set to sign Christensen this summer, who has less than six months left in his deal with Chelsea as well. As such, the Spanish club have diverted their focus on Kessie as they look to facilitate yet another free transfer moving forward. The midfielder could decide to prefer a move to Camp Nou since he may feel that he would have more chances with them.
Spurs must fight back!
The need to sign a central midfielder cannot be highlighted enough at this moment. We have just four options in midfield, which is not ideal at all during a long season. That became apparent when two of our choices in Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur had recently picked up injuries, leaving us with just Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks.
It is baffling to see how the board even led us to this plight in the first place following their decision to let Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso leave in January. The latter duo could return to N17 next summer since both of them are currently out on loan. However, they may not have any future with us having failed to impress Antonio Conte.
Hence, we need to look elsewhere, which is where Kessie would come in. He is one of the best in his position and will offer both quality and depth to our ranks. As such, we cannot afford to lose him out to Xavi Hernandez’s side because of the reasons that have been mentioned above.

Fabio Paratici could have his work cut out convincing Kessie to move to Tottenham. The North Londoners are still a work in progress and will need to start putting together a proper long term plan. While landing Kessie would certainly aid in that cause, it remains to be seen if the player is keen to have anything to do with the club.
