Transfer News: Flamengo rival Tottenham Hotspur for Inter Milan star Arturo Vidal
According to the Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t The Sun), Flamengo will face off against Tottenham Hotspur to facilitate a move for Inter Milan star Arturo Vidal in the upcoming summer transfer window. He has been mainly used as a squad player this season and was also excellent in his side’s recent 1-0 victory against Liverpool in the Champions League.
Vidal is in the final year of his current contract with Inter and is set to leave them at the end of this campaign. There is an option to extend his deal by another year, but they are unlikely to trigger the clause inserted in the agreement. As such, he is expected to depart Giuseppe Meazza with both clubs lining up to secure his services.
Antonio Conte is keen on bringing the Chilean to N17 next summer and has even contacted the midfielder personally to make his case. Moreover, Tottenham could potentially be boosted by the central midfielder’s £100,000-a-week wages, which is stated to be a roadblock for the South American side.
Should Spurs sign Vidal?
The 34-year-old is well past his prime at this stage in his playing career and may not be a great prospect for some of the fans. That being said, the midfielder could still be useful in a rotational role for us should he team up with Conte once again at Spurs.
The Seria A star has made 32 appearances this season across all competitions, but the minutes amount to a mere 1122. Despite a reduced role, he has been decent for them, having scored twice while assisting four times in the process. He could be helpful similarly for us, but it is up to him to decide over his future destination.
Even if the former Barcelona star’s wages could be a problem for the Brazilian club, he may end up taking a salary cut to join them. After all, he is open to the idea of joining Mengao with his former Bayern Munich team-mate Rafinha stating in the past that Vidal wants to play with them sometime in his playing career.

We do need midfield additions next summer, considering how there are just four options to choose from at this stage. That is not enough, especially when we have to play in several competitions over the course of a long season. As such, Vidal could certainly be helpful as he would add to the quality while bolstering the depth in the ranks.
Moreover, if the South American is willing to accept a subdued role, a transfer would be a perfect option as we do not have to worry about unrest. That being said, it would be wise on our part to convince him to take a wage cut to play at the top level rather than moving to the Brazilian league.
