Tottenham Hotspur face stern competition from AC Milan for AS Monaco starlet Mamadou Coulibaly
According to the Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Tottenham Hotspur are in line to face stern competition from AC Milan for the signature of AS Monaco starlet Mamadou Coulibaly in the summer transfer window. He is one of the most highly-rated talents to come out of the Ligue 1 club, and prising him away would be a major coup from any of the interested parties.
Coulibaly will see his contract with Monaco expire at the end of the season. Signing him on a free transfer would be a major opportunity for any club, but it seems that Milan is the main contender to secure his services. He will decide on his next destination next summer, with Tottenham also in the running as a potential destination.
Those two clubs are not alone in the transfer race, with Manchester City, Juventus and some “German sides” also monitoring the situation ahead of the summer transfer window. It remains to be seen where he would end up playing for next season.
Spurs to sign Coulibaly?
An aspiring midfielder prospering from the French side’s youth academy, he has been terrific for them, which has prompted all this attention from the major European sides. Moreover, getting a talent like him for free would be a great prospect for us if he could attain the potential shown at a young age.
That being said, we cannot wait around any longer with several clubs trying to finalise a move for the young talent. We are trailing the race at the moment, with the Rossoneri posing the main threat to our interests. That does not mean we can overlook others either, as they can easily enter the race in the months to come.
Bringing in world-class players would not always be easy for us, considering how the situation at N17 has been for quite a long time. That being said, we cannot try to sign the superstars of the future if we can convince them to join the new project we are building under Antonio Conte.

The likes of Oliver Skipp and Dejan Kulusevski have become important players for Conte in a short period. Similarly, Cristian Romero, who is getting into the groove, has become a key component of the first-team set-up. We can use them as examples to showcase how various prospects can make it into the senior ranks with us.
Whether Coulibaly will be one of those or not remains to be seen. But for that to happen, we first have to move quickly and decisively. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.
