Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte says record-breaker Harry Kane is ‘starting to understand’ his role
Speaking after his side’s 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte lavished praise on striker Harry Kane, saying the player is only just starting to click with his teammates.
The forward continued his recent rich run of form in the Premier League, scoring past the Seagulls in the second half of the game to seal the victory and head back to north London happy.
Conte said that Kane looked like he was enjoying playing with his teammates and also with the way the team was playing, with the Englishman’s presence on the pitch making them stronger.
“To have Harry in your team makes you stronger. Harry is starting to understand with this team, with the way we are playing, he has every game many chances to improve his record and score and to enjoy. I am seeing that he is enjoying to play with us together and with his team-mates and with this way we are playing.”
The win helped Spurs climb up to seventh place and inch closer to the top four of the league table, with a game in hand over other teams that they can take advantage of later on in the season.
“I was really pleased”
Kane’s strike in the second period of the match means that he has now scored 95 Premier League goals away from home, beating Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney’s record. The England skipper also managed to reach the milestone in 104 fewer games than Rooney.
The 28-year-old reacted to the incredible achievement, saying that he was really pleased to get the record and help his side become victorious, but in the end, it is all about working hard and what the team wants.
“I was really pleased to get the goal and help the team win the match. Milestones are great especially away from home, it is always tough so to know you can do it year-on-year against tough opposition is nice but it is all about the team and working hard.”
The Lilywhites got back to winning ways last night on the south coast, breezing past a Seagulls side that did not offer too much in attack to threaten the away team. Despite playing at home, Graham Potter’s men could not take advantage of the situation.
Cristian Romero opened the scoring in the first half of the match, and then Kane’s record-breaking goal put the tie to rest. It was a great way to bounce back from the weekend’s result against United, which we lost 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Kane’s form will delight Conte and Spurs fans as we approach the business end of the season, aiming to sneak into the Champions League qualification spots. After a dismal start to the campaign, we are once again seeing the world-class forward that we all know him to be.
If the Englishman continues his form for a few more years, then there is no doubt that he will end up as the league’s record goalscorer, taking his place among PL greats like Alan Shearer and Sergio Aguero. Hopefully, he achieves the milestone while playing for us in white.
