Eric Dier insists his Tottenham Hotspur form has never been so good despite England snub
Speaking after his side’s 3-1 win over West Ham United (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier said that he believed that his current form at the club is the best he had ever been in.
Dier joined Spurs in 2014 after spending his youth career in Portugal with Sporting CP, and has since established himself as one of the key players in this Tottenham side. Despite playing under a host of managers during his time in north London, the Englishman has always been relied upon by his bosses.
The 28-year-old said that the current campaign is probably his best season yet at Tottenham, not just in his defensive role but overall as a player. The star has also played as a midfielder for the team when needed, proving his versatility.
“I feel for me this is consistently my best season I have had so far at Tottenham, not just as a defender but overall.”
Dier may have been enjoying his best time at the club so far, but Spurs have managed to be wildly inconsistent this term under manager Antonio Conte, swinging between wins and losses in successive fashion.
“My football is the best”
Tottenham currently sit in fifth spot in the Premier League table, three points behind arch-rivals Arsenal, who have played a game less than them. There is likely to be a battle to the end for fourth place in the league table, with the Gunners and Manchester United also in the mix for UCL qualification next season.
Dier, however, felt that his performances have been consistent under Conte and that in his opinion, his football has been the best this season. Since coming back from injury earlier this year, the England international has been a stalwart in defence for the side.
“I don’t think I’ve ever shown the consistency in the performances that I have shown this season and I feel like my football is the best it has been in my opinion.”
Despite his personal opinion of delivering more consistency and playing his best football this season, the ex-Sporting man was dropped from Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad for their upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.
The defender may be in great form for Spurs, but in spite of his performances of late, the Three Lions called up Harry Maguire, who is having a terrible time at United, and handed a first call-up to Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

It will certainly come as a blow to Dier who has regularly been a part of the national team setup, with his versatility in defence and midfield coming up trumps for Southgate. At the moment, however, the player seems to be focused on giving his best at his club.
We will need Dier to continue his impressive displays in defence until the end of the season, in order to help Tottenham overtake Arsenal into the Champions League qualification spots in the league table. Hopefully, we see him come through with this massive task. In a way, Dier’s personal loss is the club’s gain as his risk of getting injured on international duty is subsequently eliminated.
