Fabrizio Romano reveals exclusive details of Tottenham Hotspur loan deal for Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano via The Guardian, the exclusive details of the loan deal struck by Tottenham Hotspur with Juventus for forward Dejan Kulusevski have now been revealed.
In an otherwise quiet winter transfer window, Spurs managed to complete a double signing from Juve for Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur on deadline day of the window in January. While the former moved to England temporarily, the latter completed a permanent move.
Romano revealed that the Swede’s loan deal to Tottenham includes two clauses, with an option to make the signing permanent in the summer if the club fulfils certain conditions. The winger is currently on a two-year loan spell in north London.
The 21-year-old has been a hit at N17 so far, putting in commanding performances up front alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, regularly picking up goals and assists for the team as well. He has been a breath of fresh air in our attack and is clearly a hit with the fans.
Loan details revealed
The Lilywhites shelled out €10m in the winter transfer window to snap up Kulusevski on loan until June 2023. During this time, the club is expected to pay the Nordic winger his wages in full.
However, what is interesting is that the loan deal could be made permanent in the summer under certain circumstances, for €30m. This option remains available for Tottenham to exercise in the summer of 2023. Next year, though, the price rises to become a €35m mandatory buy clause.
Evidently, football director Fabio Paratici has worked out a complex deal to sign Kulusevski on loan for two years. The fact that a buy option has been included in the contract indicates his willingness to snap up the player permanently in the future, having initially brought him to Juve while the Italian executive worked in Turin.
If the Swedish winger keeps up his current form, then there is little doubt that Paratici and manager Antonio Conte would be keen to keep him in the Premier League for a couple more years, on a permanent basis. Thus far, he has been one of the standout players in the squad, despite only making the move in January.
His second buy-option will be activated at the end of the 2022-23 season if two conditions are met during the campaign – Kulusevski plays in 50% of the team’s Premier League matches for at least 45 minutes, and Spurs qualify for the Champions League.

Tottenham are also involved in a race for UCL qualification this term, battling arch-rivals Arsenal and Manchester United for fourth spot in the league as they look to finish Conte’s debut season at the club strongly after missing out on trophies.
The ex-Chelsea manager was hired to deliver trophies. And despite the January window not being extraordinarily beneficial for us, we have managed to sign a player who seems comfortable in his role at the club. At just 21, he has a bright future ahead of him and we would do well to bring him in permanently after this season concludes- granted he continues to impress the hierarchy at the club.
