Fabio Paratici outlines the impact Cristian Romero has had at Tottenham Hotspur
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur managing director Fabio Paratici admits that the signature of Cristian Romero has been a success for the team so far.
The Argentine has developed himself as one of the top defenders in the Premier League after giving some crucial performances in this campaign. Despite missing a few games due to injury, the Argentinian has already made 24 appearances across all competitions for the North London team.
Antonio Conte has favoured the 23-year-old in his preferred three-person backline for the season. He has earned his spot ahead of Davinson Sánchez and Japhet Tanganga due to his consistency, but whether he maintains the same level in the months to come remains to be seen.
In a recent interview, the Spurs director Fabio Patricia praised Romero for his contribution and suggested that the signing has been a total success. The Italian also applauded other centre-back stars for their performances.
“He is a really important player for us, but I think not just him, he has a big impact but even the other defenders, they work very well at the moment.”
Tottenham struggled in the defensive half due to the lack of depth before the arrival of Romero. The combination is much better with Eric Dier, Ben Davies and the Argentinian star. But still, Romero’s injury gave the manager a headache in the middle of the season.
It seems the manager is spending on the qualities of his crucial players. But for the long term, the Spurs would require better depth in the lineup, which can be achieved by signing top-class defenders in the coming summer transfer window.
