Tottenham Hotspur dealt Oliver Skipp injury blow despite Antonio Conte optimism

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt an injury blow as Oliver Skipp has not returned to training despite Antonio Conte being optimistic about his availability before the international break. The midfielder has been out for more than two months now, which means that he will sit on the sidelines for more time after this update.

Conte said before the break that he is hopeful about getting Skipp back to the matchday squad, but that seems not to be the case. The midfielder is still resting and working individually before getting into team training sessions. His recovery is supposedly complicated by an infection that he suffered which is the side effect of being regularly used for a long time. Despite this latest information, we have not received an exact timeframe for his return date.

Ben Davies is expected to be available against Newcastle after he returned to Tottenham recently. He withdrew from the Wales squad following a tightness on his quad, but the decision was taken more as a precautionary measure. Ryan Sessegnon is still recovering from his hamstring problem, while Japhet Tanganga is ruled out for the remainder of this season.

Spurs to win vs Newcastle?

The situation with Skipp is very concerning, to say the least, considering how his lack of availability greatly affects our midfield. He was a regular at Norwich City when he was on loan with them last season. That has been the same this term as well, with him especially gaining more prominence under the Spurs boss.

Let’s hope that he will return to full fitness as early as possible, but it would be best if real care is given to his recovery. After all, a relapse is the last thing we need at this moment. The same can be said for Sessegnon, who has suffered several hamstring issues at N17.

We remain hopeful that the medical and fitness team can help Sessegnon overcome his struggles so that these repeated setbacks can be prevented in the future. Davies’ update is a sigh of relief considering how crucial he has been for us despite being played out of position.

Davies has truly cemented his authority as left centre-back in a three at the back system. That is a major achievement, especially when other options like Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon have struggled to garner game time. Finally, Tanganga’s recovery should also be closely monitored, especially when it is a long term issue.

The Magpies are a real threat looking at how they have fared since doing business in the January transfer window. They cannot be taken lightly in any case, and getting three points against them would give us much-needed momentum after the international break.
