AC Milan enter race to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to the Italian journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter (h/t The Sun), AC Milan have entered the race for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur to facilitate a move this summer. He is set to leave Santiago Bernabeu after this season after having a torrid time under Carlo Ancelotti so far.
Bale will see his current contract with Real expire in the 2022 summer transfer window. He is not expected to renew his deal which means that interested foreign clubs can reach a pre-contract agreement ahead of a potential move. Milan have registered their interest, and their sporting director Paolo Maldini has contacted the winger’s entourage.
The Rossoneri have discussed the Welshman’s demands and his future plans to make their case moving forward. However, Tottenham are also in the fray as they look to bring him to N17 after this term. Cardiff City are also plotting a stunning transfer for the forward alongside the two other clubs.
Should Spurs move for Bale?
The 32-year-old has struggled with injuries in the latter phase of his playing career. However, the forward has shown during this international break that he has the quality to keep playing at the top level for a couple of years more. His recent display against Austria has helped Wales close to reaching the 2022 Qatar World Cup as they will take on Scotland or Ukraine in a play-off final.
Perhaps, another example would be the La Liga ace’s loan spell with us last season, when he enjoyed a great time despite injuries being a part of it as well. We could use him in our ranks for the next campaign, but as a backup option for Harry Kane. While Bale is a winger in trade, he has played as a false nine as well as a centre-forward when needed.
We have struggled to find a solid backup option for Kane as a second choice striker will probably not enjoy many minutes due to the talisman’s presence. Perhaps, Bale could be a fine choice if he is willing to considerably reduce his outrageous £650,000-a-week wage package to facilitate a move to North London.
However, we would need to be wary of the Italian side as they are on the rise to becoming a European powerhouse once again. Stefano Pioli’s team are leading the league table at this moment, and they could offer Los Blancos winger the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season.

We have some way to go before getting into the Champions League spots, which means that the Serie A side could have the edge over us. After all, players would rather have the opportunity to play in this highly prestigious competition than move to a club where it is not guaranteed. Hence, we must ramp up our efforts in the coming months and gain a foothold in the top-four race.
Cardiff arguably would not pose a major challenge as the Welsh international may feel that he still has some years left in the top flight. Only time will tell how this situation will turn out to be in the coming months ahead of the next campaign.
