Transfer News: Inter Milan will sell Tottenham Hotspur target, Lautaro Martinez, on one condition
According to the Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post), Inter Milan are ready to sell Lautaro Martinez on one condition, with Tottenham Hotspur having identified him as a transfer target. He has enjoyed a solid season so far after having to take over the reins from Romelu Lukaku at the start of this season.
Martinez has earned a name for himself following his excellent partnership with Lukaku. However, the former has showcased that he can also deliver the goods alone, having impressed for both Inter and Argentina as their primary centre-forward. That has attracted attention from England, with Spurs monitoring his situation at this moment.
However, Tottenham are not alone in the transfer race, as Arsenal are also looking to get their hands on the Argentinian. It is claimed that Inter are open to parting ways with their key man if their asking price of more than €80million is met by any of the interested parties.
Spurs to pay for Martinez?
We are desperate for a centre-forward in our squad, but the 24-year-old may not be the right fit for us. After all, we need a backup option rather than a starter, with Harry Kane currently being the one striker choice for Antonio Conte in the team.
Martinez is a regular at club and country, so it would not make sense for him to play second fiddle to Kane. Then again, our pursuit to sign the Inter star could depend on the England skipper’s future, who could leave us in the future if he decides to go down that route.
Martinez would be a solid replacement in such a case, plus he would also have the experience of playing under Conte from their time together with the Nerazzurri. The valuation is a bit pricey, but he is contracted at Giuseppe Meazza until 2026, which means that the Serie A club are in control over his future.
As such, we may be forced to meet the Italian side’s asking price if there are plans to sign the Argentine. With the Gunners being in the transfer race as well, Simone Inzaghi’s side can afford to set that valuation which makes life difficult for us.

But we remain hopeful that Kane would stay with us moving forward, especially after the connection he has built with the Spurs boss. Should that happen, we would not need to engage in the complexities involved in securing Martinez’s services in the future.
However, it is good that Fabio Paratici is keeping his eyes on Martinez in case of a worst-case scenario. Even with our pursuit, we also need to look at other targets who can add to the depth as we cannot go another full season without a backup centre-forward.
