Tottenham Hotspur emerge as shock contenders to sign Carlos Tevez on free transfer
According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport [Print Edition] (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as shock contenders to sign Carlos Tevez on a sensational free transfer in the future. He has not retired from football just yet and is currently a free agent after leaving Boca Juniors back in July.
Tevez has been on a round trip across Europe which has seen him generate talks of a move to AC Milan. That was after he was pictured with Stefano Pioli and Paulo Maldini at their Milanello training camp. He was also seen at Juventus and Inter Milan, with Tottenham seemingly being his next destination.
The Argentine is claimed to be in line to “reunite” with his former manager Antonio Conte next week ahead of the match against Brighton and Hove Albion. That has seen him get linked with a free transfer to Spurs, but it remains to be seen whether a move is in the cards at all. DC United have also offered the centre-forward an option to return to football.
Can’t see this happening
The 38-year-old played 17 matches last season and has four goals and three assists to his name at Boca Juniors. He had a subdued role under them due to obvious reasons as he is well past the peak of his playing career. As such, it is difficult to see a move to N17 happen under the current circumstances.
The former Manchester United forward’s visit to the Hotspur Way Training Ground could simply be because of Conte, who had managed him at Juve. We would probably see a repeat of what happened with the Serie A clubs to happen here as well.
We do need a centre-forward in our ranks since Harry Kane is the only available option in the squad. The North Londoners have often struggled to find a suitable backup for our talisman as players know it will be difficult to get minutes, with Kane being ahead of them in the pecking order.
Tevez could play such a role, but it is highly doubtful whether he can meet the physical demands of playing in a top competition like the Premier League given that he is 38 years old. Unless he impresses Conte during his time with us, it is highly doubtful that the club would go down this route, especially with the uncertainties.
Until we receive further updates on the matter, it is highly advisable that this piece of information is taken with a pinch of salt. Let’s wait and see how this situation will turn out to be in the coming week.

El Apache was one of the most exciting South American imports we had in England. Given Cristiano Ronaldo’s success so late in his career, one can say that being close to 40 isn’t a reason to undermine a player completely.
But whether Tevez has that level of fitness and can replicate the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, and Edinson Cavani so late in his career remains to be seen.
