Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur to rival Arsenal for Leicester City star James Maddison
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle it out with Arsenal to facilitate a move for Leicester City star James Maddison in the summer transfer window. He has enjoyed a solid season so far despite his side struggling to break it into the top half of the Premier League table.
Tottenham have expressed a “genuine” interest to secure Maddison’s services, but they will now face competition from the Gunners, who have been linked with him again in recent weeks. Both the North London clubs are long term admirers of the midfielder, which could potentially result in a bidding war after this term.
Leicester could be convinced to part ways with the Englishman with a substantial transfer fee. After all, they could use that money to reinforce their squad in much-needed areas. It is claimed that he is currently valued at £60million, which is fairly expensive, but the price does make sense given the player’s potential.
Spurs need Maddison?
We could certainly use the 25-year-old’s addition, considering how we only have four midfielders in our ranks at this moment. Our depth is not enough as an injury or suspension could make life difficult for us even if Antonio Conte utilises a two-man midfield set-up.
Hence, signing Maddison would make sense as he could add more quality and depth to our options. Not to mention, Conte being an admirer of the midfielder certainly does bode well in our pursuit to secure his signature. We could use someone like him in the team since he is known to rack up goal involvements from the centre of the pitch.
Maddison has scored 13 goals and assisted eight times this campaign from 42 appearances across all competitions. That is a solid return looking at how the Foxes have struggled to get going throughout this term. His profile as an attacking midfielder could be useful for us and something different in our current squad.

The interest from Mikel Arteta’s side would cause trouble for us, and the current asking price adds to the obstacles that we need to overcome. However, the Leicester ace still has two years left in his current deal giving Brendan Rodger’s team firm control over his future. Hence the price tag does seem reasonable, but we should still haggle and reduce the amount or even stagger the payments across several seasons.
A potential transfer could definitely be on the cards since the Foxes midfielder could decide to move elsewhere to have a better shot to get into the England national team for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. We could have a chance to sign him this summer, but it is up to the board to carefully plan out our transfer budget as we need funds to bolster other areas of the team as well.
