Antonio Conte gives strong approval to Tottenham Hotspur for signing Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni
According to the Italian source Calciomercato (h/t The Express), Antonio Conte has given his “strong approval” to Tottenham Hotspur for securing the signature of Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni. The latter has developed to become one of the best centre-backs in Serie A this season after making his breakthrough under Conte.
Tottenham are searching the market to bring in more defensive reinforcements to bolster their backline ahead of the next term. They are particularly focusing on the left centre-back position where Ben Davies is deputising in a makeshift role for now. While Davies has done well, it is always best to have a natural option in defence.
Spurs have lined up Bastoni as a potential replacement for Davies this summer. Fabio Paratici shares a similar opinion to the Italian boss, with both of them giving the go-to sign to pursue the Inter ace. A deal is far from being finalised, so it will be interesting to see how this pursuit develops in the coming months.
Bastoni to join Spurs?
Successfully raiding Giuseppe Meazza for Bastoni would undoubtedly be a great transfer business from our side. After all, the Italian is one of the rising superstars in the making while possessing enough quality to be a strong presence even at a young age.
The 22-year-old also has the experience of playing under the 52-year-old coach, which makes him a more attractive prospect for us. That being said, facilitating a transfer would be a stern challenge, indeed, considering how the central defender will still have two years left in his contract this summer.
That’s not all, as we would also need to deal with the Nerazzurri, who are trying to renew the Serie A defender’s contract. However, the North Londoners must do their best and complete this move, especially when they are pushing to mount a challenge under Conte.
Winning trophies would no doubt be in the Spurs manager’s mind despite the club’s lack of silverware for quite a long time. However, signing talented prospects like Bastoni would be the way to ensure that we have the best chances to put an end to this title drought.

Paratici and Conte being on the same page regarding the Nerazzurri centre-back certainly does bode well for us. After all, that eases the process as we can smoothly try to set things up to finalise a potential move in the future.
Bastoni would uplift the quality of our ranks and further solidify our defence from the next campaign onwards. But there are still some ways to go before we can even say that a move can genuinely happen this summer. We hope that is the case, as it would help build Conte’s project much quicker moving forward.
