Juventus enter race to sign Leicester City star Youri Tielemans amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to the Italian news outlet Calciomercato (h/t The Express), Juventus have entered the race for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur for a potential move. He is expected to leave King Power Stadium in the summer transfer window, which has attracted attention from some of the major European sides.
Tielemans will see his current contract with Leicester expire after the next season. He has already rejected a proposal to extend his deal, which has prompted them to sell him this summer. That has seen Tottenham, Manchester United, and Liverpool vie for his services at the end of this term.
Now Juventus have entered the fray, although the Belgian would still like to stay on in England. That gives the three Premier League clubs a boost in this transfer race. Champions League football is another enticing factor that could probably impact this pursuit, giving more initiative to Spurs and the Reds in the process.
Spurs to target Tielemans?
The 24-year-old has been solid for the Foxes throughout this term, scoring seven goals and assisting three times from 39 matches across all competitions. There were phases when he was performing below par, but that was mostly down to how poor the team as a whole were in the first half of this campaign.
We currently have just four midfielders in our ranks which is not ideal when we will have to engage on multiple fronts throughout the entirety of the season. While Tanguy Ndomeble and Giovani Lo Celso could return from their loan spells, their future with us has probably come to an end since Antonio Conte allowed them to depart in January after all.
Hence, we need to bring in a quality addition this summer to add more quality and depth to the centre of the pitch. After all, an injury or suspension can put us at risk in a long season, which is perfectly explained by Oliver Skipp’s setback. Fortunately, we only have the league to focus on for the rest of this term.
Tielemans would be a great choice indeed, and his experience of playing in the Premier League certainly boosts his profile even further. Jurgen Klopp’s side are the main competitors in this transfer race under the current circumstances.

After all, the Belgian international’s preference for playing in England coupled with Champions League football leaves the North Londoners and the Merseyside club as the only “favourites” right now. That being said, the Bianconeri‘s entry shows the stern challenge that awaits us moving forward.
It is quite normal that top clubs would want to get their hands on an attractive prospect like Tielemans this summer. Whether N17 will be his next destination or not would need to be seen in due time.
