Tottenham Hotspur sent scouts to watch Lens duo Seko Fofana and Cheick Doucoure
According to French outlet Jeunes Footeux (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur have sent scouts to watch Lens duo Seko Fofana and Cheick Doucoure as they helped their side to win 3-0 against Nice on Sunday. The English side is preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they are looking to back Antonio Conte by uplifting the squad’s quality.
For that purpose, Tottenham have added Fofana and Doucoure to their summer transfer shortlist. That is because they expect Conte to make several transfer demands should they qualify for next season’s Champions League, which seems to be on the cards under the current circumstances.
Spurs scouted the Ligue 1 duo last weekend, with Mali International Cheick Doucoure also scoring a goal to help the French side further cement their authority in that game. He made it 2-0 with his thunder strike from a long distance which would have left a mark among the scouts. The Italian boss is interested in adding the midfield pair to his squad at the end of the current campaign.
Summer signings?
It will be interesting to see further updates on this matter, especially since the North London side has now scouted the African duo. That could also indicate that the former Inter Milan boss may not be satisfied with the current set of options.
That is certainly understandable, considering how we only have four midfielders in our squad right now. While Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele could return to N17 from their respective loan spells, their future with us is still up in the air, given the fact that the 52-year-old boss had allowed them to leave back in January.
This news wouldn’t be pleasant for Harry Winks to digest as well. After all, Winks has struggled to garner game time, even though Oliver Skipp has been out injured, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg forming the starting duo. Adding more midfielders to the squad only means more competition for him.
It is pretty clear that we need to reinforce the team this summer if there are ambitions to challenge for titles. We may not get many such opportunities where a world-class manager like Conte would be trying to put an end to this trophy drought.
As such, Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy must do their best to back the man in charge by bringing in the transfer targets that he desires. If that means signing Ivory Coast international Fofana and his Lens teammate Doucoure, then they would do well to facilitate a move and bring them to N17. Whether that will happen, though, remains to be seen.

If the Lilywhites facilitate a move for the duo, it would not be the first time we deal directly with the French side for the services of their players. Spurs signed Benoit Assou-Ekoto from Lens in 2006 while Taarabt came in on a permanent transfer the next year from the very same club.
