Transfer News: Newcastle United rival Tottenham Hotspur for Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale
According to Spanish news outlet Sport (h/t Newcastle World), Newcastle United will battle it out with Tottenham Hotspur to facilitate a transfer for Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale. He is in line to depart Santiago Bernabeu at the end of this season, resulting in interest from elsewhere.
Bale has less than six months left in his current deal with Real, and he is expected to leave them in the summer transfer window. Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the matter, which has prompted several interested parties to register their interests. Tottenham and Newcastle are two of the possible destinations for the attacker.
Rangers are also keeping tabs on the Welshman, posing more obstacles for Spurs to overcome. Several unknown English sides are also in the running, but the Magpies would be a stern challenge indeed. The latter have a firm interest in the forward, leading to an interesting couple of months ahead of this summer.
Reunion this summer?
While an emotional return for a former player is always a good factor, we must also be reasonable and put the club’s interest above everyone else’s. The 32-year-old has shown that he still has the qualities to play regularly in the top flight during his time with his national team.
However, the concerns would be related to the La Liga ace’s injury history and the winger’s inability to remain fit for long durations. The North London side should only target him after assessing all the risks involved in a move. Not to mention, his current salary of £600,000-a-week would also be a huge liability for us-granted he demands somewhere around that mark at his next club.
Hence, Antonio Conte’s team should only move for Los Blancos attacker if the risks can be reduced as much as possible. However, with the Toons and the Scottish side being competitors, we may need to ramp up the efforts, especially when the former appears to be keen on a transfer.
The Real forward could be a valuable addition if he can remain fit and not harm our club’s financial health. After all, he can play on both wings and as a focal point if needed. With Harry Kane currently lacking a backup, we could use Bale’s services after all.
Not to mention, Bale has shown during two separate stints at Spurs that he has what it takes to make it in the PL. And if we are to lose Steven Bergwijn in the near future, then it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring in the Welshman.

Hence, there are ways in which Bale can be useful for us, but only time will tell whether he will be a Tottenham player next season or not. Fans love an emotional reunion and Bale’s story with Spurs can still get a dream ending if he joins us and becomes a part of our team that lifts its first major trophy since 2008.
