Hugo Lloris analyses Brighton mistakes and sends warning to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of Brentford clash

Speaking in his post-match interview with Spurs TV after his side’s 1-0 loss to Brighton (h/t football.london), Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris analysed the game and pointed out areas where they could improve ahead of the upcoming clash against Brentford.

Spurs had a horrible time at home against the Seagulls last Saturday, barely getting a shot on target against the opposition. They would then go on to lose the match at the death, courtesy of some brilliant finishing from Leandro Trossard.

Ahead of his side’s game against Brentford on the weekend, Lloris urged his teammates to analyse the Brighton match well and learn from it as he believed that other teams like the south coast club could come and play with freedom and enjoy the competition without worrying about the pressure of results.

“It’s important to analyse well the game and analyse well the performance and learn from this game because I think it will happen again, this type of team, already safe in the Premier League, that play with freedom, they come here just to compete and enjoy the competition, without the pressure of the results.”

There is every chance he is referring to being wary against teams like Brentford, who are safe from relegation in their first season in the Premier League and are playing to compete and put up a fight against the rest of the clubs in the competition.

“We lost a lot of easy balls”

The Bees will be coming into the game against Tottenham in good form, enjoying a three-game winning run. During this time, they have managed to beat sides like Chelsea and West Ham United. The Hammers, like the Lilywhites, are aiming to finish in the top four by the summer.

Lloris warned Tottenham that they needed to answer plenty of questions from their performance against Brighton, introspecting as to why they could not increase the intensity or change the rhythm or why they were too slow in transitions and lost a lot of easy balls.

“Today [Saturday] there is plenty of questions about the performance that we need to answer, why we could not increase the intensity, why we could not change the rhythm at some point in the game and then today we were a bit too slow in transition by passing the ball and we lost a lot of easy balls.”

Spurs have been enjoying a topsy-turvy season this term in terms of results, unable to put together a consistent run of wins marked by good performances all around. This inconsistency has seen them stuck in fourth place, unable to consolidate their position in the league table.

Prior to facing Graham Potter’s side, the north London club were on a 4-game winning streak, including an away win against Brighton last month. However, despite playing with home advantage, Antonio Conte’s men failed to turn up and lost the match.

The Brentford game cannot be taken lightly, with the Bees already having beaten top-four contenders Arsenal and West Ham earlier in the season, and even managing a draw against Liverpool. Like the Seagulls, the Bees sit midtable and have nothing big to fight for, with them being clear of the drop zone and not near the European spots.

With an opportunity to pull further away from other rivals in the race for the top four, Tottenham need to give it their all and listen to Lloris’ sound advice to avoid a defeat that would make life harder for themselves. After Brentford, we face a Leicester side with barely anything to play for this season, followed by massive games against Liverpool and Arsenal.
