Leicester City enter race to rival Tottenham Hotspur for Torino star Gleison Bremer
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Leicester City have entered the race to rival Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Torino star Gleison Bremer. He is set to become one of the hottest defensive prospects this summer, with a transfer tussle set to take place.
Leicester have added Bremer to the top of their shortlist for a central defender addition in the summer transfer window. They will ramp up the efforts to sign him as Brendan Rodgers wants to add fresh blood to an injury-ridden backline. They will face competition from Tottenham, who have already expressed an interest in the centre-back.
The Brazilian is one of the centre-half that Spurs are looking at as they want to bolster their defensive setup. Liverpool are also keen admirers of his talents, adding more competition for his signature. Currently rated at £40million, he could be in line to depart the Serie A side after this season.
Can Spurs win this transfer race?
The 25-year-old who has excelled playing on the left-hand side of the defence could be a perfect addition to Antonio Conte’s backline. After all, Conte has been using Ben Davies, who is naturally a full-back, as a left-sided centre-back which could have implications in the long term.
While Davies has deputised well in that role, it would be best to have someone who has plied his trade in that position from the get-go. We have other central defensive options like Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez, who can play there, but they have not been preferred by the Tottenham boss.
Even Japhet Tanganga, who is currently out for the rest of this term, can be deemed dispensable if we can bring in a better option. Bremer would certainly fall into that category, considering how he has helped his side become one of the best defences in the Italian top division this campaign.

With the Foxes posing new competition, we must complete a deal at the earliest to strengthen our defence. The current asking price remains feasible after taking into account the two years Bremer has left in his current contract with the Italian club.
It remains to be seen what lies in store for the Brazilian defender at the end of this season. We hope to see him in our squad for the next term, but whether that will happen or not will only be known in due time.
