Transfer News: Bayern Munich interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur target Konrad Laimer
According to German outlet Kicker (h/t Football.London), Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur target and RP Leipzig midfielder, Konrad Laimer.
Laimer has been sensational in the Bundesliga for Leipzig. With 5 goals and 6 assists in 36 matches across all competitions this season, he is contributing positively in an attacking sense as well. And along with that, he is an able midfielder who can join the attack as well as help out in defence.
The Austrian international, who has 20 caps and 2 goals for his country at the senior level, now seems like he could be ready to take the next step in his career. Even if he decides to move away from the German club, he wouldn’t have problems finding a new home as he has several admirers.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has been interested in adding the Austrian central midfielder to his team. Manchester United were also keeping a tab on the Leipzig star. And now, it is claimed that Bayern Munich have entered the race for the 24-year-old’s signature.
Is this a good target for the Spurs?
Even though some crucial players left the club in recent years, Tottenham Hotspur have seen central midfielders like Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg and Oliver Skipp steer the ship in a stable manner. The duo has stepped up in this campaign but even with Rodrigo Bentancur’s summer addition, it feels like we are one good midfielder short in that area.
His arrival has seen an increase in depth and quality of the midfield contingent to some extent, but Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele’s failure to impress Conte and move out on loan subsequently raises doubts about whether we have the necessary amount of quality players in the centre of the park.
Laimer has good experience of playing in Germany and those who have watched him, know that he can be labelled as an all-round midfielder given his contributions on both sides of the pitch for his team.

Conte’s system employs two central midfielders, and given their role in the formation, the duo is expected to be helping out in defence, and linking up play with the attackers when necessary. Laimer can be a useful addition in that regard.
But it remains to be seen if our club actually makes a move for him this summer or in the near future, given the arguable need for additions in the defensive department as well as an attacker that can provide cover for Kane.
