Celtic in advanced discussions over Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers
According to SBI Soccer (h/t Scottish Daily Express), Celtic are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal. It is believed that Premier League clubs such as Watford, Leicester City, and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in his services.
The 24-year-old is having an impressive loan spell with the Hoops. He recently scored an all-important winner in a 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Rangers, further extending their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
It is believed that the Scottish club can turn his current loan deal into a permanent move for £6million. The USMNT defender has been a sturdy presence at the back under the tutelage of Ange Postecoglou.
Carter-Vickers to Celtic?
The 24-year-old centre-back has been provided some valuable minutes at the Celtic Park outfit. He is adored by the fans due to his recent exploits and a permanent deal could be a lucrative option considering that the Scottish club are headed on the path to UEFA Champions League qualification.
Carter-Vickers has made 41 appearances, bagging four goals and one assist for Celtic across all competitions this season to date. In contrast, the central defender has only managed five senior appearances for Spurs till now.
At 24, the Southend-born player would naturally want to feature regularly in the first team- wherever he may be. Not only would it help develop his game, but also put him in a better position to make inroads and cement his place with the national side.
Antonio Conte prefers to set up with a three-man defence on most occasions. Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies are his preferred options whenever available. The Italian also has requisite backup options at the moment.

With Joe Rodon already struggling for minutes alongside Japhet Tanganga, it would perhaps be better for all parties if Cameron Carter-Vickers departs the Lilywhites. The lure of playing regularly along with Champions League football next season is something that many players would want.
And at Spurs, it is extremely hard to see how he could have turned a corner to such an extent that Conte considers him as a first-team regular. He has clearly failed to make a mark at N17 and if there is a chance to make some cash off of him, Spurs would be wise to take it.
